Getting Your Skin Ready for Summertime Fun

Alright, so now that NYC has officially entered the summer season ( it’s unbearably hot lately), naturally the time spent outdoors will increase. If you’re like me and tan or burn easily, then guarding your skin against harmful UV rays is really important.

The key to getting and maintaining clear, healthy, and beautiful skin (face and body) lies in treating it properly. Don’t skimp out on a skincare routine! Before makeup, hitting the beach, or heading out to that BBQ, protect your skin with sunscreen.

Unfortunately with my sensitive skin, finding the right sunscreen is a hassle. I prefer broad spectrum SPF 50 with UVA/UVB protection and ideally, little to no titanium dioxide in the ingredients; it makes me break out or get a rash. But, I think I finally found one that works well for my skin AND is super affordable.

Thankfully since I'm participating in the #ApplyRepeatProtect campaign with Walgreens, I discovered Walgreens brand suncare, particularly the Walgreens Moisturizing Sunscreen which is oxybenzone free, paraben free, oil free and hypoallergenic. And yes, it’s true, it is quite moisturizing. Also, it doesn’t smell like typical sunscreen which I really like. Plus its broad spectrum SPF 50 #winning.

If I know I’m going to be out in the sun for a long time, I apply this before anything else. Be sure to slather it on all areas that will be exposed (arms, legs etc) including your chest! I totally forgot to put some on my chest the other day, and man, I’m paying for it now. After toner and serums, I also lightly apply some to my face focusing on areas that have dark spots (from breakouts or just cuz I’m getting old), to help prevent further discoloration.

With our ozone layer losing it’s mojo protecting your skin is important now more than ever. Using sunscreen will help the appearance of blotchiness and slowdown premature aging skin. Listen, skin cancer is real folks, wear the sunscreen. You’ll be glad you did 10 years from now. Once that’s done I continue with my skincare regime as usual.

People always ask me what I use on my face, how do I get my skin looking so smooth. What we see on the outside is a reflection of what’s going on inside. I know you’ve heard this like a zillion times but, a healthy diet and drinking water will help too. I didn’t believe the water thing at first either but you guys, it’s the TRUTH!

If you’re a Walgreens Balance Reward member, which you should be if you’re trying to save money, from now until August 26th you can get a $1 off coupon when you purchase one smartwater and one Walgreens brand suncare item. smartwater has electrolytes and the Walgreens Moisturizing Sunscreen won’t disappoint; take my word for it. Hydrate your body and protect your skin and it’ll love you back #pinkypromise.

Whether you love long walks along the water, running outside (my fave), are a beach bum, or going on a summer vacation, don’t forget to pack the sunscreen along with everything else. With Walgreens brand suncare you get affordability with quality products, thus, helping you be “skin smart.” And please, don’t forget about the little ones! Walgreens’ Baby Lotion 50+ is top rated on Consumer Reports.

Be sure to reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours and after 80 minutes of swimming or sun exposure. #ApplyRepeatProtect in full effect!
