HOW TO RESET FOR THE NEW YEAR

HOW TO RESET FOR THE NEW YEAR & GYST 2024

HAPPY 2024! A new year is upon us and if you are feeling overwhelmed with “hitting the ground running,” here are a few simple things you can do to reset and get your shit together.

Keep on reading for some tips on what you can do to start fresh at any time.

  • CLEAN & ORGANIZE YOUR SPACE

Start slow and work your way through cleaning your living space and getting organized. This will make it easier for you to go about your daily routines and having an organized workspace will also improve how you work and create as well. That pile of papers? Go through them, file what needs to be saved, and throw away or shred what you don’t need anymore.

  • DIGITAL DECLUTTER

If you don’t have extra storage, I highly encourage you to Invest in an external hard drive. We need a backup of our backup storage and keep important documents, photos, videos, etc. in a safe place for when we need to access them. If using cloud-based storage is your thing, do that. The key is to back up laptops, desktops, and our phones.

    • If we’re backing up files, it’s also important to get rid of any unnecessary ones. Deleting files, including caches, will make our devices run more smoothly too.

    • Another way to approach a digital declutter is to take inventory of who we are following on social media and subscribing to via email. Who is inspiring you? Who isn’t? How do you want to feel when you open up Instagram? Think about that and move accordingly. If you don’t want to unfollow just yet, you can mute content from any account. Try doing that first and see how you feel. The same goes for promotional emails. It’s hard nowadays because it seems like we’re added to email lists without us even knowing and it can get quite overwhelming! You can try an app like Unroll to make unsubscribing easier and faster. That’s one thing I will be doing soon myself.

  • REFLECT & SET INTENTIONS

Taking the time to reflect on the previous year is also very helpful. This is the time to be honest with yourself and write out all the highs, lows, and everything in between. What were you proud of? What do you want more of? Less of? How do you want to spend your free time? Carve out some space during your day to write it all down so you can clear your internal life and start this year from a clear and fresh headspace. I use the word intentions instead of goals because sometimes the latter can feel a bit daunting or like we need some grand things to accomplish. And it doesn’t have to be what way! This isn’t a competition. Even if you have one goal/intention, that still can bring about positive change and forward movement.

  • GIVE YOURSELF A WORD FOR THE YEAR

One thing I love to do is give myself a word, maybe two, for the year. It is a great way to establish a foundation from which to build. Anytime you start feeling a little off, remind yourself of your word, and it will ground you. And when I create my vision board, I like to include my word of the year in it in some way. That constant visual reminder is also very helpful!

  • THINK ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL

If making resolutions or goal setting is not your jam, I feel you. Again, that’s why I prefer intentions. It’s really about whatever approach works best for you to help you make progress throughout the year. Decide how you want to feel every day. What do you have to do to achieve that feeling? Write it down, make a plan, and be intentional about it.

May 2024 bring you everything you desire!
