10 Wardrobe Essentials For Every Woman

10 Wardrobe Essentials For Every Woman - closet essentials - style - style blog by Miriam Morales

The thing with trends is that they come and go, and some rarely ever make a comeback. With that being the case, it is undeniable that there are those key pieces that should be found inside every woman’s closet, especially fashionistas! Wardrobe essentials are those items that are timeless, they never go out of style, and are so versatile you can wear them a ton of times. Basically, you get your money's worth, feel me? Plus, it makes getting ready so much easier.

1. White Button Down / T-Shirt

A white button-down (or t-shirt) is one of the most versatile pieces any woman could own. It can be worn under a blazer or sweater, with jeans, a skirt, Bermuda shorts, you name it. Now there are so many interesting twists on this classic that are so stylish and unique. I definitely love the unconventional approach as a way to make a bold statement.

2. Black Pencil Skirt
Let's be real, you can't go wrong with black, like EVER! A black pencil skirt is a must-have.  It's not only sfw (safe for work) but, in a different fabric like faux leather, velvet, suede, it's also great for casual outings and for putting a different spin on an otherwise "boring" piece. I personally think a faux leather black pencil skirt with a basic white t-shirt tucked in, with sneakers is super cute. Dress it up, dress it down, you're good to go.

3. LBD (Little Black Dress)
This one goes without saying for sure! As I've gotten older the necessity for a LBD has become clearer and clearer. Having at least 3 in different styles I find to be the most ideal. You'll have what you need for any occasion and with the right accessories, you can take from drb to fab in no time.

4. Black Trousers / Dress Pants
Black again!? Yes, we have a theme going here. I repeat: YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH BLACK, LIKE EVER! Sure, you can go with a simple plain black pant but with all the trendy options out now, why would you want to? Added details like ruffles, a striped panel, mixed material (like faux leather and suede) really let's you have some fun with this basic item.

5. Black Pumps
I sure do love me a pair of black pumps! All black is a staple but you can also go for patent leather and any pair with embellishments for a statement.

6. Nude Pumps
Like black, nude pumps are a no-brainer. Neutral colored shoes helps to give the illusion of longer legs and for shorty's like myself, it's so necessary.

7. Black Blazer
With jeans, dress pants, over a dress, with a skirt etc. you will get so much use out of a black blazer. I currently love a more boyfriend oversized fit or military style. For the office I think a classic fit works best but this is another item you can definitely have fun with.

8. Jeans
Ah, finding the perfect fit for you can be quite the struggle especially if you're petite and curvy. But the right fit and length is important. I'm not talking about anything trendy right now like boyfriend jeans, mom jeans, oversized, or baggy. I'm talking about a sleek pair of denim (dark wash or mid-wash), that fit you like a glove, sans the bulge. Some are so over skinny jeans but I personally don't think they ever really go out of style. For me, they're the only style I really get the most use out of, especially during the winter because I can easily tuck them into boots. Old Navy Rockstar always fits me great but they sell out so fast!! What's your favorite brand for petites?? Let me know in the comments.

9. Classic Beige Trench Coat
A trench coat screams sophistication to me. It's polished and versatile. And it doesn't have to be beige; black, olive green, or red are great too! It's a piece that adds the perfect polished touch to any outfit. While ideal for the office I really love it for that street style, off-duty look with heels or sneakers.

10. Comfortable Flats or Sneakers
Keyword: comfortable. Lord knows how many pairs of flats I've bought that was just so dam painful! Flats can be cute and stylish too, you just have to find the right style for your taste and lifestyle. If your job requires you to be on your feet all day then flats are the way to go. Having a pair of roll-up flats to keep in your bag is smart because you can easily wear them while commuting and then change into your high-heeled footwear. Or, put them on after hours of dancing, or just, ya know, whenever you're in pain.  Some NYC areas aren't the friendliest to heels anyway and it's better to prevent them from getting damaged by wearing cute comfy flats.

And those, IMO, are the 10 essentials every woman needs in her closet. Do you agree of nah? What are your essentials?
